The current water crises in Gaborone provided an opportunity for us to assess our individual contribution as responsible citizens in trying to address the problem. Botswana is a drought prone country and we need to develop habits that are in line with our climate. We also need to be able to plan such that we capture as much rainwater as possible because our rainfall patterns are unpredictable.
Rainwater collection is not alien to this country and we need to integrate it into our common practices. A more proactive approach to water demand management which includes continuous education ought to be in place.
Grey water is one resource that we need to optimize. It is common knowledge that in Namibia a country whose climate is similar to ours grey water is recycled and used for all domestic and industrial uses. Botswana need to be educated about the merits of grey water and be educated and assured that the quality of the water that comes from a treatment plant will not jeopardize their health.

Water Conservation Tips
Make sure the leaky pipes and taps in your house are fixed. This will also save your family a lot of money by not paying for water that you're not actually using.
Plant drought resistant plants (like bush willow, buffalo thorn and acacia) that don't need a lot of water to survive.
Reuse water that's not too dirty. Instead of just throwing it away, throw it on your plants and trees.
If you have a tin roof, build a rainwater catchments system that takes rain that falls on your roof and puts it in a large barrel by your house.
